Zinc therapy (5 mg/day) improves sexual competence by increasing penile thrusting and prolonging ejaculatory latency without disturbing arousability and motivation of male rats. Increase in the T levels observed with zinc supplementation is beneficial in this regard. However, increase in PRL is responsible for the reduced libido index. Further studies on pigs and monkeys are needed to evaluate the possible therapeutic use of zinc in sexual dysfunction.

Unfortunately, many of the same factors that brought the Italian Renaissance to an end—among them corruption, wars, and a widespread backlash over secularism and indulgence (leading to the “Bonfire of the Vanities”)—also terminated the “rebirth” in Spain. Chasing heresies became a sport that led to the resurrection of the Inquisition, which unlike its prior appearances operated completely under royal authority, rather than the aegis of the church.
Obesity is a state of chronic oxidative stress and inflammation (38). The increased oxidative stress associated with obesity may increase free radical formation, which could quench and deactivate nitric oxide, reducing its availability for target cells. Weight loss programs with dietary modifications and increased physical activity may lead to reduced oxidative stress associated with improved nitric oxide availability (39). As impaired nitric oxide activity appears to play an important role in the pathogenesis of erectile dysfunction (40), improved nitric oxide availability associated with weight loss may be implicated in the amelioration of erectile function in our series of obese men. A reduced CRP level due to sustained lifestyle changes may have contributed to amelioration of erectile function after treatment. Levels of CRP correlate significantly with reduced nitric oxide availability (41) and increasing severity of penile vascular disease as measured by penile Doppler (42). Moreover, consistent findings support a predictive role of CRP and IL-6 for cardiovascular events in different populations (43), while IL-8 is a potent chemoattractant (44).
It promotes the formation of red blood cells, enhances cellular metabolism, supports brain function, improves sexual function in men, and contributes to the healthy sperm production. This is because vitamin B12 is required for the formation and duplication of DNA which, in turn, is responsible for the healthy sperm production. And vitamin B12 deficiency affects genetic material the sperm carries.
The number of intromissions in the 5 mg/day group was comparable with controls. On the other hand number of penile thrusting was significantly increased with the same dose. These are indications of unimpaired erectile function due to supplemented zinc. Our observations also confirmed the lack of aberrant sexual behavior which is indicative of uninhibited penile tactile sensations. Sexual behavior may also be changed with motor weaknesses and incoordination. Supplementation with zinc did not impair muscle strength or coordination when tested with bar and bridge tests, indicating that prolongation of ejaculation was not mediated through these mechanisms.
Whether you’re looking to bulk up, or are just concerned about having enough protein to keep your body strong and healthy, zinc is an absolute must have! When we eat protein, it gets broken down by the body into amino acids, and then resynthesized into the different proteins needed by the body, and zinc is a vital part of this process. So even if you are eating lots of protein, without zinc you won’t be able to use it properly!
Thank you for posting this. The exact same thing happened to me, My Dr. recommended Niacin to reduce LDL and increase HDL. Trouble is I noticed my sex life really dropped quickly. Very rare to get and maintain an erection. I couldn't quite tell but it seemed to me the problems started a couple of weeks after I began the Niacin. Out of desperation I quit Niacin to see what would happen and suddenly the full and regular erectiions came back. Everything I read says the effect should be the opposite. Now I have to decide do a die earlier of heart disease and have more sex or better cholesterol control with a diminished and almost non-existent sex life. Pretty sure I'm gonna favor the sex life!
Niacin is another class of lipid-lowering agents, about which research dates back at least 55 years.2 Not only does niacin lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C, the “bad” cholesterol), total cholesterol, and triglycerides, it increases HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C, the “good” cholesterol) by inhibition of lipolysis in adipose tissue, which eventually leads to improvement in all lipid parameters. Furthermore, there are studies suggesting that niacin can improve the clinical outcome in cardiovascular disease, and that it may lead to the regression of atherosclerotic plaque. Dyslipidemia is closely related to erectile dysfunction (ED) and evidence has shown that statins can improve erectile function. However, the potential role of that other lipid-lowering agent, niacin, hasn’t been known until now.
ICI therapy often produces a reliable erection, which comes down after 20-30 minutes or with climax. Since the ICI erection is not regulated by your penile nerves, you should not be surprised if the erection lasts after orgasm. The most common side effect of ICI therapy is a prolonged erection. Prolonged erections (>1 hour) can be reversed by a second injection (antidote) in the office.
Three types of medications to treat erectile dysfunction -- sildenafil, vardenafil and tadalafil -- may cause low blood pressure. Niacin, used to treat conditions such as high cholesterol and hardening of the arteries, can also lower your blood pressure. If you take medications to treat male impotence, ask your doctor before combining it with niacin.
In the end, the data from the Hong Kong study suggest that niacin alone can improve the erectile function of subjects with dyslipidemia suffering from ED. This is the first time this conclusion has appeared in the literature. Once again, the effect of niacin is clinically significant in those with moderate to severe ED. Further, because of the close relationship between ED and dyslipidemia, niacin could prove to be an important therapy for managing both conditions. Who knows? There may even be other benefits. Future studies will further refine the indications and benefits of niacin in patients with ED.
Alprostadil is injected into the side of penis with a very fine needle. It's of great value to have the first shot in the doctor's office before doing this on your own. Self-injection lessons should be given in your doctor's office by an experienced professional. The success rate for getting an erection firm enough to have sex is as high as 85% with this treatment. Many men who do not respond to oral PDE5 inhibitors can be ‘rescued' with ICI.
Parameters evaluated in this study are determinants of some important aspects of the male sexual competence. Libido index, intromission and mount latencies are indicators of libido, arousability and motivation. Copulatory efficiency and inter-copulatory intervals are indicators of sexual vigor, while penile thrusting is an indicator of penile erection.[8,11,14,15] Our results showed that the libido index was significantly reduced in the 10 mg/day zinc saulphate treated group. In the same group, majority of the animals (62%) failed to complete their sexual behavioral cycle within the observed period. Though these unsuccessful rats showed the initial steps of the cycle such as licking, physical contacts with the females and few mounts and intromissions, they were inactive at later stages. Therefore a significant reduction of the libido index, number of intromissions, mounts, and ejaculations were observed in the high dose of zinc treated group compared to controls.
Long considered an aphrodisiac by the Chinese, ginseng may do more than just rev your engine. A 2013 South Korean study found that taking the herb for just a few weeks improved guys’ performance in the bedroom, including helping them last longer before finishing. Meanwhile, a study in Spermatogenesis found that ginseng can also help make for harder, longer-lasting erections and improve testosterone levels, which in turn boosts libido. “Ginseng is a promising herbal therapy for ED because it helps promote relaxation of smooth muscle in the penis, increase dopamine levels in the brain, and increase pressure in the cavernosal nerves of the penis which helps nitric oxide synthesis,” Walker explains.
But in this case, zinc is much harder to absorb. This explains a decrease in testosterone levels in vegetarians. Slippery jack mushrooms, button mushrooms, beef liver, and fish are also rich in zinc. They are followed by breadstuffs, egg yolk, rabbit, chicken, beans, tea, and cocoa. In addition, zinc is found in onions, garlic, and rice. And a very small amount of zinc is available in fruits, vegetables, and milk.
Taking zinc in supplement form is just one of many treatments for those looking for help with ED. Many men use supplements either to replace prescription medications like Viagra and Cialis, or to enhance the effectiveness of these medications. Some other natural supplements aimed at relieving ED symptoms include Korean red ginseng, L-Arginine, carnitine, and DHEA.
